Closing the gap: increasing access and equity

Abstract

2011 is the year of the long-awaited Nursing Summit! This summit, with the main theme of Reconstructing and Revitalising the Nursing Profession for a Long and Healthy Life for All South Africans, was an event to remember. The National Department of Health must be congratulated on the success of the event. There was limited time to arrange an event of this magnitude, and the enthusiasm of all that attended reflected the dedication and commitment of the organising team. The aim of the Summit was to highlight issues that are of central concern to the future of the profession, as well as to the success of Government’s health reform agenda.
