Abstract
Prevention is better than cure, and vaccines play a vital role in the prevention of many infectious bacterial and viral diseases, especially infectious childhood diseases. Not only do vaccines protect the vaccinee, but in many instances, they also protect the community by reducing the overall prevalence of the disease (i.e. the so-called “herd immunity”).
