Bridge the protection gap with Nestlé Nestum and Nestlé Cerelac cereals

Abstract

When infants start a complementary feeding schedule from the age of six months, they experience a ‘Protection Gap’ because the reserves of antibodies received in utero from the mother are decreasing the older they get. As the breastmilk supply diminishes, the baby is at a greater risk for infections which may impair optimal growth. Babies are increasingly exposed to environmental agents responsible for common childhood illnesses. Furthermore, the immune system is still maturing and has only fully matured when the baby is about four years old.
