Abstract


Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is the fourth leading
cause of death in the world. Despite this, clinicians, pathologists and epidemiologists have struggled for years with the definitions and diagnostic criteria of disorders associated with chronic airflow limitation, including chronic bronchitis, emphysema, COPD and asthma.
