Letter from America

Abstract

The title of this editorial is pure indulgence. It has long been a dream to chronicle life from afar and in this edition I get to do it. Veteran radio broadcaster, Alistair Cooke’s weekly Letter from America entertained and informed, even if it offered a worldview to which you didn’t necessarily aspire. While I am far too young to have listened to all 58 years of his “letters,” I still enjoyed what I heard. So this month’s editorial from America, in the US of A, is by default really as I failed to send it before I left home. My story is that needed time and space to mull over this South African nurse’s Oktoberfest. This is my shorthand for my October slice of life, my weltanschauung. All of this sounds very grandiose and isn’t meant to be. Just a chronicle of a month in the life of a nurse.
