Children/Toddlers - Wheezing

Jennifer Albrich

Abstract

Wheezing is a non-specific symptom caused by narrowing of the airways. It can sound like a prolonged whistling
sound, like organ music or like the wind whistling in chimneys. Wheezing is a general symptom of airway narrowing and may have many different causes e.g. asthma, lung infection, allergies or even airway obstruction. Infants and children younger than 3 years old have smaller
and more reactive airways, which may predispose them to wheezing.
