South Africa Needs Midwives now more than ever!
Abstract
Once again, this successful congress attracted just under 1 000 midwives from all over the country. The theme highlighted
the need for dedicated midwives with advanced training if we’re going to address ominous maternal mortality statistics in South Africa. Mothers and babies are dying from preventable causes. Not only
is HIV and Aids robbing our nation of young, child-bearing women; manageable complications like post partum haemorrhage, hypertension and other pregnancy related complexities raises the
question: where are we going wrong
